Annie Maier, anthology editor for the Charlotte Writers' Club, will present Ken Burrows, CWC’s contest chairperson, who will read his short story, “Room in the Inn,” from CWC's current anthology Journey Without. Burrows enjoys reading all submissions before sending them to the judges for review. He administers various programs at UNC Charlotte and writes essays and stories.
Katherine W. Barr is a former president of the Charlotte Writers' Club and edits a quarterly newsletter for the NC Division of the National Federation of the Blind. Her poems have appeared in Bay Leaves, Kakalak, Iodine Poetry Journal, The Lyricist, The Main Street Rag, and Pinesong. Barr is a Virginia native and a retired high school librarian with a B.A. from Queens University.
Formerly a magazine and newspaper editor, Ann Campanella received the Poet Laureate Award twice from the North Carolina Poetry Society and was selected for the Blumenthal Readers & Writers Series. Her poetry books include a collection, What Flies Away, second place winner in the 2007 Oscar Arnold Young Competition for the best book of poetry in North Carolina, and a chapbook, Young & Ripe. Her poem “Six Days on the Road” was recently featured on Garrison Keillor’s “The Writer’s Almanac.” Campanella’s writing has appeared in Chelsea, Crucible, Earth and Soul, Iris, Kakalak, Main Street Rag, Pembroke, Southern Poetry Review, Tar River Poetry and the bestselling A Cup of Comfort series.
